The Japanese National Railways 117 series electric multiple unit vehicles are suburban electric multiple unit vehicles used by the Japanese National Railways in 1979. A total of 216 series vehicles were produced. This type of train is designed to provide
rapid train services on the Tokaido Main Line and Sanyo Main Line in the Keihanshin area.
The 117 series is designed as a group of 6 freight cars, with the ratio of power car to trailer being 2:1. This is the standard configuration for new 117 series trains.
